Between 2003 and 2009, I photographed on colour film, documenting my taxi passengers between sunset and sunrise in Sydney, Australia. Driving through the city at night, picking up passengers, I became immersed in the ebb and flow of Sydney’s rhythms. The streets felt like veins of a larger body, and the movement of people like its pulse. The taxi became my photographic studio, where I selected passengers based on their stories, appearance, and our brief encounters. During each journey, I spoke with them about their lives, and at the end of the ride I asked to take their photograph.
